Krista Gerlich became the Texas Tech women's basketball head coach in late August, marking her return to her alma mater. Before that, she became the winningest head coach in UTA women's basketball history.

UTA men’s basketball team sports shirts honoring various black historical figures

Last February, players and coaches on the UTA men's basketball team sought to inform others about Black History Month. They did so by wearing T-shirts representing various Black historical figures and giving presentations.

Shereka Wright made her return to the Lone Star State when she was hired as UTA's new women's basketball coach. The former Vanderbilt assistant was the 13th pick in the 2004 WNBA Draft.

Mavericks suffer defeat in Sun Belt Conference Men’s Basketball Championship final

The UTA men's basketball team fell just short of an NCAA Tournament berth after a 73-64 loss to Georgia State in the 2019 Sun Belt Conference Men's Basketball Championship final. UTA was projected to finish 11th in the Sun Belt, but went into the conference tournament as the second seed.
